Astounding nine-track debut from the critically acclaimed Dark Star sees samples melted into psychedilic guitar and experimental vocals that echo notions of Sparklehorse, Radiohead and Mercury Rev all rounded into a perfect little bundle. 'I Am The Sun' is a racing kalediscope of punchy guitars, laced with the biting lyrics, opening track 'Ninety-Six Days' is a low-strung groove built upon guitar feedback and a dubby bassline and 'What In The World's Wrong' provides a catchy, singalong chorus. It is not surprising that the term 'dub-rock' has been used to describe Dark Star. The melding of grooves, scratches and dubby bass with traditional rock elements such as guitar feedback and fast paced beats gives a fresh sound, and one that is inevitably distinctive.
